'Points of Light II'
'Points of Light II'
elm, 400cm height.
Ward Jackson Park, Hartlepool.
the title refers to Jeanette Winterson's sub-atomic description in 'Sexing the Cherry':
'Matter, that thing the most solid and the well known, which you are holding in your hands and which makes up your body, is now known to be mostly empty space. Empty space and points of light. What does this say about the reality of the world'
In the context of 'Full Circle' the piece is symbolising the stars as a navigational aid. The grid lines relate to mapping and charting the stars, they follow the original form of the tree.
