'points of light'

elm,2000.

height 190 cm.

the title refers to Jeanette Winterson's sub-atomic description in 'Sexing the Cherry':

'Matter, that thing the most solid and the well known, which you are holding in your hands and which makes up your body, is now known to be mostly empty space. Empty space and points of light. What does this say about the reality of the world'

the holes through the piece cast a pattern of light on the ground when the sun aligns with the piece, and conversely one is able to catch glimpses of the sky and landscape behind the piece - glimpses of reality.
