Built from 80 year old larch trees which were grown adjacent to the position of the final bridge. This gives the work a conceptual continuity, the trees are given new life in a different form, but still at the same location, continuing to bear witness to the passing of the seasons.
The beautiful steep wooded valley was inaccessible to machinery and so all the work was carried out on-site from felling to installation. Chainsaws were used to cut the components of the bridges, and a hand winch with pulleys to move the timber into position.
"working on my own in the woods, I came to feel as though I was part of the woodland - a little organism beavering away about my business!"
