the long slits at the bottom echo cavities in an ancient hornbeam tree nearby, which must be the resultant scars of some kind of trauma during its life. These are refined or refine themselves into a honeycomb like pattern representing social order and cooperation. The work was commissioned as part of the annual Green Festival and aspires to an evolved society where environmental respect is woven into the fabric.
